Neighbors were shocked by the gruesome scene that unfolded outside the Dunn family’s Redding, California home, on Monday. Jason Dunn (27) is believed to have stabbed his father Gregory before cutting both his own hands off at the wrist.
Despite life threatening injuries both men are now receiving treatment in hospital sheriff's office Detective Will Gardner told CNN.
On Monday the Shasta County sheriff's deputies found Gregory (59) bloody and laying on his driveway. His son Jason stood close by with both his hands cut off.
Jason stabbed his father several times with a pair of scissors. A police press release stated that Jason then cut off his own hands using a radial-arm saw.
Although no charges have been charged against Jason the police are investigating the case as an attempted homicide. Police told CNN the situation started out as a verbal fight between the men and then became physical.
Neighbors heard the dispute and an anonymous witness contacted the police.
A neighbor, Gary Rinehart, told KRCR, a CNN affliate, that he saw the men being wheeled from the scene by paramedics. "This is definitely the craziest thing that's ever happened on this street," Rinehart said.
He added "I just can't imagine anything like that happening between family."
