Ireland's Taoiseach Micheál Martin was in the Oval Office of the White House today, Wednesday, March 12, for his much-hyped bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump.

As predicted, the two leaders discussed a range of topics.

Early in the meeting, Trump said it was a "great honor" to have Martin visiting.

"We have tremendous business relationships with Ireland, and that will only get stronger," Trump said.

"The relationship we have personally and every other way is very, very strong and very, very good."

The Taoiseach, donning shamrock on his lapel, said it was a "great honor" to be there to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and thanked the President for his hospitality.

"I commend you in terms of the work that you're doing, particularly in terms of the pursuit of peace, which we discussed earlier, and I think that's going well.

"You really have in the first sort 100 days of this government, you've done some extraordinary things very quickly with everybody watching."

"Thank you," Trump said.

Trump continued: "It's a great honor to have you. Special people, very special people. I know a lot of Irish, growing up in New York.
