Three people have been arrested following crowd trouble between Drogheda United and Dundalk fans at Oriel Park on Friday night.
Dundalk emerged as 4-2 victors over their near neighbors in the third Louth derby of the season, but the fixture was marred by post-match violence, which spilled onto the pitch after the full-time whistle.
Footage of the incident shows fans fighting on the pitch after the full-time whistle, while other fans in the stands threw projectiles.
Drogheda United described the footage as "unacceptable" and "unsavory", adding that the club will decide upon "appropriate sanctions" after reviewing the footage of the incident.
"All involved in Drogheda United sincerely apologize, especially to the families, but to all who witnessed the post-match altercations in Dundalk last night," Drogheda United said in a statement.
"The events that occurred after the match were unacceptable, and as a club, we condemn this unsavory and violent behavior.
"We are working closely with security staff, photographers, and tv crews to identify the individuals involved and will determine appropriate sanctions once we have reviewed all the footage and have all the facts.
"Rest assured there is no place for this behavior in our club. The vast majority of our fans are exceptional, unfortunately, we have been tainted by a very small minority.
"We will continue to focus on building and bettering a safe sporting environment for all to enjoy."
Gardaí have arrested three people in connection with the incident, according to widespread reports. Two of the individuals have been dealt with under the Garda Juvenile Liaison Scheme, while one man received an adult caution.
