Shaun Brady, originally from Nenagh but who had been living in Kansas City for the past 10 years, was shot dead on August 28 after reportedly disturbing a robbery outside of his restaurant. Two teenagers have since been charged in connection with murdering the chef.

A popular chef who owned the Brady and Fox Restaurant and Lounge with Graham Farris, tributes have poured in for the father of two following his death.

His family added in his death notice "The family would like to thank the communities of both Kansas City and Nenagh for all their support and messages during this harrowing time."

Police have said that he saw several men standing around a car, and went to confront them — with one of the group shooting him dead before they fled the scene.

Tributes have been paid to him on social media, with nearby Italian restaurant owners saying that he was one of the best chefs in the city.

"Tonight Anthony’s Italian Restaurant and Lounge is mourning the loss of one of this city’s best chefs,' Anthony’s Restaurant and Lounge wrote on Facebook.

"Like many, I was heartbroken to learn of the death of Shaun Brady," another wrote.

"Having met him, I was inspired by the community he was building in Kansas City. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and the families and friends of all impacted by violent crime in our community."

Shaun grew up in Tipperary, falling in love with cooking when preparing meals for his mother — whom, he said, didn’t want him to become a chef.

|My mammy was very, very against me being a chef," he told the Kansas City Star newspaper at the time. "It took her quite a few years to come around. We weren’t put up on the pedestals like we are now.

"Chefs had a history of drug and alcohol problems. It was just a different time."

He studied to become a chef in Dublin Institute of Technology, when he met his US-born wife Kate while she was visiting Ireland.

The couple originally lived in Chicago, before they moved to Kansas City in 2013 where he started the restaurant.
