The arrest of suspect Alek MinassianWikiNews

An Irishman who witnessed yesterday's horrific attack in Toronto described the scene of the crime. 

Ten are dead and 15 injured after a Toronto man plowed a rental van onto the bust pedestrian intersection of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue yesterday (April 24). 

Suspect Alek Minassian was arrested at the scene and has been charged with 10 counts of murder. He was not on the radar of law enforcement authorities, and his motive remains unclear, though he made a Facebook post in the hours before the attack referring to the "Incel Rebellion" - incels are men who believe they are  "involuntarily celibate."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that there was no reason to believe yet that he had any connections to groups considered threats to national security. 

Irishman David Maher from Ennis, Co. Clare, works on Young street and missed the attack by minutes but provided the following description of its aftermath to BreakingNews.ie: 

“We heard a lot of sirens and commotion coming from outside our office building just after we had come back from lunch.

“I stepped outside and saw two police cars just outside the building and there was a dead body lying in the gutter.

“You could see shoes, blood and lots of broken glass on the road. It was horrific."

The 24-year-old said that he and some co-workers had been sitting having lunch at an outdoor cafe right where the van first barrelled on to the sidewalk, just 10 minutes before the attack took place. 

“It’s terrifying to think how close we could have come to being hit. It’s just awful for all of the people involved to be in the wrong place at the wrong time," he said. 

“My thoughts are with them and their families because I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now."
