Neno Dolmajian, the tourist from Canada who had been hospitalized after he was assaulted on Dublin's O'Connell Street on June 23, has died in hospital.
Dolmajian, a 41-year-old from Montreal, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 2, at Dublin's Mater Hospital, according to RTÉ News.
His parents and sister who had travelled from Canada were at his bedside.
An Garda Siochana also confirmed the death of the man on Tuesday, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Dolmajian had been hospitalized at Mater Hospital since being assaulted in Dublin's City Center in the early hours of June 23.
Four men have been arrested in the scope of the investigation. Two have been released while two others - Madalin Ghiuzan and Ionut Danca - have been charged in relation to the attack.
In their initial witness appeal on June 23, Gardaí said they were alerted to two incidents involving a number of individuals on Cathal Brugha Street and O’Connell Street Upper at about 1 am that morning.
The man who was assaulted was taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for "serious injuries."
Ghiuzan, a 23-year-old from Romania who has been living in Ireland for five years, was arrested near the scene of the incident and charged the following with two counts of assault causing harm.
During Ghiuzan's hearing on June 24, Garda Sergeant Sean McCarthy said that at 12:40 am on the morning of the assault, Ghiuzan was at Cathal Brugha Street with friends when the injured party approached him.
The court heard they had no prior contact, and they "engaged in a conversation" before two alleged assaults took place.
McCarthy said Ghiuzan was observed striking the man several times before his group of friends moved to O'Connell Street.
The victim was knocked to the ground during the assault, McCarthy said, and "struggled with getting himself onto his feet."
The court heard that the man also proceeded to O'Connell Street, where he encountered the group once again near the Spire.
McCarthy said Ghiuzan "pushed and punched the man," causing him to fall to the ground.
Ghiuzan was not granted bail and remains in custody.
Danca, a 24-year-old also from Romania who has an address in Dublin, was charged on June 28 with assault causing harm.
According to RTÉ News, Detective Sergeant Eoghan Byrne told Judge Bryan Smyth that Danca was allegedly with a group at Cathal Brugha Street when the injured party approached and engaged in conversation.
It was claimed a member of the group struck him, and they moved on to O'Connell Street, where there was another interaction with the injured party.
Danca was not granted bail and remains in custody.
