Two Irish women who owned a holiday home in Turkey were found murdered last night in the suburbs of the popular tourist city of Izmir. They were discovered in the woods with their throats slashed, authorities say, and all signs are pointing to the spiteful teenaged boyfriend of one of the woman’s daughter.

Marion Grahon and Kathy Winsmore, both 54 and from Co. Down, were believed to have been taking a day tour led by one of their daughter’s boyfriend, known locally as Recep C, or RC. The three took the boy’s father’s cab into the city, where he then drove them into the wooded suburbs of Buca, a subarb of Izmir. It was there where he slashed their throats and dragged them into the woods.

Authorities believe that RC was angry at one of the woman because she would not allow him and her 15-year-old daughter to marry, just a short while after the two met at a restaurant where he worked as a waiter. That woman is believed to own property in the Kudasi area, where she was staying with her daughter.

According to Reuters reports, on the same day that RC was taking Grahon and Winsmore on a tour, the daughter was on a boat tour of her own off the coast of Kusadasi. She became alarmed when she didn’t hear from the women later that day, according to Reuters Africa. Both the boy and his father have been arrested in connection to the tragic double murders.

South Down MP Margaret Ritchie says that her “thoughts are with those involved in this terrible incident. And also with their families, who never got the chance to say goodbye to their loved ones. I think all the people of South Down will be saddened by this news.”
