Ireland is coming under Status Red wind and storm warnings as Storm Éowyn, a "powerful winter storm," heads toward the country.
Storm Éowyn is a "nationwide multi-hazard event, with the potential to be very destructive," Met Éireann said on Wednesday as it issued Status Red weather warnings for the entire country.
Met Éireann notes that Status Red warnings are issued for "rare and very dangerous weather conditions from intense meteorological phenomena."
The level of winds that Storm Éowyn is forecast to bring "have the potential to pose a threat to life and property." As such, Met Éireann advises the public to "shelter in place" under any red warning, and "limit travel to essential only and shelter in place as much as possible" under any orange warning.
Under Status Red weather warnings, people are further advised to "take action to protect yourself and your property," and "follow instructions and advice given by the authorities under all circumstances and be prepared for exceptional measures."
Met Éireann cautions that Ireland's electricity network is "expected to be severely impacted [and] the public are advised to prepare for the arrival of the storm including ensuring their mobile phone is fully charged to enable communication."
There is a Nationwide Red Wind Warning with different applicable times.
