Senator Susan Collins of Maine threw down the gauntlet to American women when she provided the key vote to get her fellow Irish American, Brett Kavanagh, to the Supreme Court.
Think what you will of her but the senator could not have been more clear about her choice. She chose to disbelieve Christine Blasey Ford and believe the judge.
Polls show that the women of America do not agree with her but what will they do about it?
How long can they stand by and be insulted?
This week alone, crowds chanted “Lock Her Up” when President Trump questioned if Dianne Feinstein had leaked Ford’s name to the media.

Then there was Trump’s nasty attack on Ford - personal and spiteful - and his comments about Senator Lisa Murkowski. His most horrific comments were aimed at a Republican woman, Carly Fiorina.
"Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!"
Despite that, 53 percent of white women voted for Trump. They have reaped the whirlwind.

This poll has Trump’s approval rating among Latinos at 41 percent, identical to his overall 41 percent.

Trump belongs to the Rat Pack-era as Maureen Dowd in The New York Times has described it. Women are broads, know their place and are useful for only one thing. He gives them no respect. Indeed his nastiest vitriol is saved for them.
I hope the polls are right and that women are energized and ready to vote against Trump next month but I cannot say for sure.

America elected an African American but refused to elect a highly-qualified woman, the reverse of what I thought would happen. Misogyny runs deeper than we thought and strangely, many women are willing participants.
I welcome the fact that this election is about Trump more than anything else. There is a clarity to that, especially for women. Will they go to the polls in record numbers or will it be another retreat and a mixed message?
Will it be #MeToo or #HoHum? We are about to find out.
