Daniel, 32, was originally from Mallow in Co Cork, but had been living in Youghal for the past two years.

Gardai in Midleton, Cork continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the 32-year-old’s death and have now commenced a murder investigation.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr. Margot Bolster earlier today and preliminary results have been provided to the investigation team.

A garda spokesperson said the details are not being released for operational reasons.

One male (20s) that was arrested last night remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Cork.

A number of scenes subject to examination by the Garda Technical Bureau remain preserved at this time.

A senior investigating officer (SIO) is leading this investigation from the incident room at Midleton Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) continues to provide support to the family of the deceased.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to please come forward.
