"Heart Attack" singer Demi Lovato |
The 'Heart Attack'' singer - who underwent a stint in rehab to be treated for bulimia and self-harming in 2010 - admits her new album 'Unbroken' contains a lot of "emotional" material and while it was good for her to express her feelings, she also hopes the tracks can help other people.
She said: "With the album I have a ton of upbeat songs [that are] super catchy that get stuck in your head, which is a good thing. But I also have some pretty emotional songs on there, opening up about things that I haven't ever really talked about. It's a big deal for me...
"If you're not using your power for good, then you're wasting everyone's time."
The 20-year-old star also thinks her years of experience in the entertainment industry have made her a good judge on 'The X Factor', and she insists she has never felt out of her depth alongside older panelists Britney Spears, L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell.
Speaking on 'Live with Kelly and Michael', she added: "I've lived a lot of life at a young age and I've kind of seen the world from a different perspective. As a kid I always got along better with adults, and so being able to sit on a panel with other adults, I feel comfortable."
