One Direction at the BBC Teen Awards |
The 'Live While We're Young' hitmakers - made up of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson - took home prizes for Best Single with 'One Thing', Best Album for 'Up All Night' and Best Music Act, and thanked their fans, friends and family on each occasion.
Their presence on stage was greeted by a rapturous reception from their screaming army of 9,000 fans inside London's Wembley Arena.
Olympic diver Tom Daley was hot on the heels of the group, winning two awards - Male Hottie of the Year and Best British Sports Star - and other winners included Paralympics GB swimmer Ellie Simmonds, who won Inspirational Hero of 2012, and Emma Watson was named Female Hottie of the Year.
One Direction proved their worth by wowing the crowd with a stunning performance to close the ceremony - which was hosted by Radio 1's new breakfast show host Nick Grimshaw and his colleague Gemma Cairney - shortly after Taylor Swift had amazed with a four-song set.
The 22-year-old beauty opened her performance with 'You Belong With Me' and 'Love Story' from her 2008 album 'Fearless' before launching into 'Red' - the titular song from her upcoming fourth studio album - for the first time ever live and then ending with the catchy 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'.
'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe won Best British Actor and 'X Factor' picked up Best British TV Show, plus Little Mix, last year's winners of the ITV1 talent show, performed 'Wings' and 'DNA' - the titular track form their forthcoming debut album - for the screaming crowd.
Awards were also handed out to three inspirational teenagers, Jenna, Chelsea and George - who overcame cancer when he was nine years old and continued to raise money to help other youngsters in a similar situation - for heroic acts during their life.
Prior to the ceremony - which also featured performances by Ne-Yo, Conor Maynard and Fun - Radio 1 DJ Jameela Jamil paid tribute to the youngsters.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "It's truly amazing some of the incredible things they've done.
"I was on the panel to help choose the winners of the inspirational awards and it was so tough because they're all amazing."
One Direction's Niall seemed to have recovered from his recent knee operation after he was bitten by a squirrel in London's Battersea Park. He was spotted leaving the 'X Factor' studios on crutches last Saturday, but at one point during the ceremony today he jumped for joy as the boy band walked off stage after picking up their third award.
