'One million BC' star Raquel Welsh

The 70-year-old Hollywood icon accepts the 25-year-old actress – who has been to rehab several times and had numerous run-ins with the police – has many self-made problems but believes it’s about time she was given a break from the relentless interest in her personal life.

She said: “I’m the antidote to Lindsay Lohan. I know she misbehaves terribly, but sometimes it just seems like it’s open season on her.”

Raquel – who was catapulted to fame at the age of 26 when she played a fur bikini wearing cave-girl in 1966 film ‘One Million Years B.C.’ – can understand why young actresses go off the rails, and claims the pressure of making it in Hollywood can have a negative effect on ambitious starlets.

In an interview with AARP VIVA magazine, she said “(In Hollywood) it’s ’My self-esteem,’ my self-this,’ ‘my self-that’. Believe me, I’ve been there - I’m an actress. At one point you just get nauseous with it and think, ‘I have to take my mind off myself!’ ”

As she has gotten older, Raquel – who has been married four times -insists she has become far less selfish and always considers the feelings of others before she acts.

She explained: “I wasn’t impossible before, but in the past 10 years I’ve made a concentrated effort to think about what I have to do for other people, what I woe, what my part is in whatever relationship or situation I find myself in. It’s getting older, I guess, that makes you think that way.”
