New York's Gov. Cuomo signs New York's Secure Ammunition and Firearms


Much has been said about the affordable Care Act, aka “Obama Care” and its possible effects on job losses.

In New York, the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, aka “SAFE” seems more likely to kill jobs than make people safer. 

Last week, the Kahr Firearms Group announced the cancellation of their plans to open a new factory in Orange County NY, and instead will move to Pennsylvania.

Frank Harris, a spokesperson for the company told the press:

‘‘We’re looking for a more friendly environment for our business. Maybe we could have stayed here and built a plant, but the way the bill was passed left us feeling there were a lot of uncertainties going forward…Why take a chance when we can be in a state where they’re not looking to cause us any problems?’’

Finding what the company referred to as Pennsylvania “enthusiasm” for their plant far more encouraging. The Kahr Company move will cost NY well over 100 jobs.

The “SAFE” act created a gun registry, banned certain gun features, limited gun capacities to seven bullets, limited pistol licenses to 5 years, and among other things, added taxes for ammunition. 

Most crime experts say the “Safe” act will do little or nothing to lower gun violence since nearly all crimes involving firearms are committed by people who obtain illegal weapons from out-of-state, and who are not going to comply with the law anyway.

Other corporations associated with firearms in New York are also likely to eye moves in the near future.

Job losses are always unfortunate. These losses are the direct result of severely misguided legislation.
