Do you end up arguing on holiday?

A third of Irish couples argue while on their annual vacation, according to a recent survey.

A survey commissioned by AA Travel in Ireland showed that 36 percent of respondents blamed much of the tension during their annual vacation on different interests, timekeeping, and tidiness.

"We spend so much time looking forward to holidays and probably not enough time thinking about what we will do when we arrive," the AA's Conor Faughnan told the Evening Herald.

"We were a little surprised at the results but I guess they tell us that we are all human," he added.

Not only do Irish couples tend to butt heads while on their summer getaways but also 12 percent of people argue about choosing a destination as well as the amount of luggage they bring. Irish women complained that their partners were often disorganized and late.

The key is good communication says Faughnan: “Discuss your plans well in advance, not just about where you are going to go but about what you are going to do when you get there."

"People who talk freely about different interests in advance are far less likely to fall out with each other while away," he added.

Of the 7,500 surveyed, 15 percent admitted they were 'very likely' or 'somewhat likely' to argue about alcohol consumption while on holiday.

"Too many foreign beers, sangrias or ouzos are a very bad combination in very hot sunshine," Faughnan advised. "Gently does it... it's better for your body and for your relationship."
