Celebrate the holidays with family and friends at the 42nd annual Christmas Revels – a joyous participatory theatrical event filled with music, dance, comedy and carols, this year from the Emerald Isle. The shows will be at Sanders Theatre located at 45 Quincy Street, Cambridge.
Our 2012 Christmas Revels is set on board the RMS Carpathia in December 1907 and follows a group of Irish émigrés who have left their homeland behind in search of a better life in America. Their passage is long and Christmas is drawing near. The children want to know, “How will we celebrate?” The answer? With blazing jigs and reels, rousing songs and lilting ballads, fantastic stories, carols and rounds for all to sing, a brass ensemble, a Mummers play, and a champion Irish band – not to mention the many Revels touchstones audiences have grown to expect each year including Susan Cooper’s solstice poem, The Shortest Day, the Sussex Mummers Carol, the peace round, Dona Nobis Pacem, and, our signature piece, the joyous and participatory Lord of the Dance. Join us at Sanders Theatre this winter as we literally set the stage for a rollicking Irish Christmas at sea!
