We love an Irish spin on a classic and this timeless moniker is just that. It’s definitely one to keep on your radar as we predict this will keep rising in favour amongst mums and dads-to-be for many years to come!

With Rían and Fionn for the boys and Éabha and Fiadh for the girls taking prime positions on their respective lists’ top ten, Irish names certainly made an impact on how parents in Ireland chose to name their little ones last year.

Further down the charts, a newcomer appeared on the top 100 Irish girl’s names and we think it’s just adorable!

While many will be familiar with the nickname version of Margaret, Peigí is a sweet take on the familiar favourite – Peggy.

Pronounced the same way, Peigí is a strong traditional Irish name meaning "pearl".

While Peggy has appeared on the CSO’s charts sporadically since 1980 (three babies were given the name that year, as well as in 1983, 1999, 2017 and 2023), Peigí first presented on the list in 2019.

Gradually increasing in popularity in recent years, the name has gone from being used four times to seven times in 2024.

What do you think of the name Peigí?
