Trying to find your Irish ancestors or delve deeper into your family's history and genealogy? The Genealogy Event is August 30 - September 1, 2018, in Adare, Co. Limerick.
IrishCentral, in partnership with Ireland of the Welcomes and Irish Tatler, is pleased to announce the 2018 dates and program for The Genealogy Event which will take place from August 30 through to September 1, 2018, at the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel in Adare, Limerick.
This year marks the first year the conference will be presented by IrishCentral, a premium storyteller into the Irish global community. The Genealogy Event supports the continued commitment IrishCentral has to the growing interest in genealogy and DNA. Roots Ireland, an important source for researching Irish ancestry, will also join as a conference supporter, as will EternallyIrish.com, a memorial website that offers family and friends the chance to create an online Irish home for loved ones.
The opening welcome event will be held at the Limerick Museum on Thursday August 30 where a guided tour by curator Dr. Matthew Potter will provide a background to the history of Limerick.
The conference takes place on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Talks will highlight such topics as researching common Irish surnames, the Placenames Database of Ireland, Irish fashion and society, photo history and interpretation, researching religious ancestors, emigration research, and DNA. In addition, attendees can participate in one on one consults with genealogy experts as well as two DNA boot camp segments. The DNA boot camps will provide intermediate and advanced level strategies on how to interpret DNA testing results.
Evening social events include a tour and dinner at a private Georgian estate and a brewery and pub tour and experience on the Saturday of the event.
