This captivating footage from British Pathé shows the west coast of Ireland in 1965.
The six-minute travelogue visits various locations, including Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Croagh Patrick and Galway Cathedral, but the most interesting scenes of the color film show everyday life in Ireland as it was in the 60s.
The archival newsreel features shoppers at a bustling street market in Galway, workers at a shipyard near Cork, fisherman pulling in their catch from the Atlantic, and water skiers on Loch Derg.
One of the oldest newsreel film companies in the world, Pathé’s stylized clips were shown in cinemas until the 1970s. Pathé’s 85,000 historic films are free to view online, and dozens of Irish-related footage is included in the collection.
