John Daly is in great form both on and off the course ahead of this week’s 3 Irish Open.

The two-time major winner  is in fine fettle after a storming finish at the Italian Open saw him finish in second.

The 43-year-old heads to Ireland next for Thursday’s  3 Irish open at Baltray in County Louth, but the legendary party animal recently had gastric bypass surgery and will not be able to enjoy a pint of the black stuff this time round.

"I'm part-Irish and it feels like home there. Over the years I've had every drink they've got, but because of my surgery I can only sip whiskey now and I'll be staying off the Guinness."

That said, the Arkansas native, who has dropped 56 pounds since the gastric band procedure, is buoyed by his final round 66 in Turin.

"I love the way I am hitting the ball. I've never really had a teacher, but Rick (Smith, Phil Mickelson's former coach) has been keeping things simple.

"I'm making sure I finish the backswing (the longest in golf still) and the follow through. I'm very happy and Ireland should be a blast.”

Daly will join Padraig Harrington, Rory Mcllroy and a host of other stars for the 3 Irish Open.
