Amanda Serrano has moved to clarify comments she made in the wake of her loss to Katie Taylor – and declared she was “ready” for a trilogy fight with her opponent.

The Bray boxer secured a unanimous decision victory – scored 95-94 by all three judges – in the catchweight bout at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, though Serrano and her camp immediately contested the result, with the Purto Rican claiming Taylor “kept headbutting me”.

Serrano also took to social media to further question the fight verdict, pointing out that she had landed more punches than Taylor had and that her opposite number had had a point deducted in-fight.

‘I landed 107 more punches, she got a point deducted and I lost 95-94,’ she posted on X in the wake of the battle in Texas.

Serrano also reposted a number of tweets which poked fun at Taylor’s win, including a clip of former France football captain Zinedine Zidane headbutting Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final in clear reference to the accusations of her leading with her head.

However, with the dust finally settling, it appears Serrano has had a change of heart. She explained her original comments had come in the heat of battle and were not intended to disrespect Taylor – before she added she was ready and waiting for a third fight with her rival.

‘Congratulations to Katie Taylor (on) her decision win,’ she wrote. ‘Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle & you say things you shouldn’t say.

‘I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent & these were never my intentions to Katie. She & I are cool outside the ring and the best dance partners in the ring. In no way should I ever have said she did it purposely, it’s her style that makes for them.

‘I’m not perfect and though I try my hardest to be the nicest person I can be I’m human & being emotionally hurt can sometimes misguide you in what you say.

‘I’m OK, I’m healthy a bit bruised and cut but still blessed beyond belief.

‘We both came out with our health intact & that’s what I prayed for. Whenever our teams can agree on a trilogy I’ll be ready. I hope you guys all enjoyed women’s boxing at its highest level.’
