The GAA Football Intermediate Club Final between Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Ballinderry has been postponed due to "tragic events."

The GAA has announced that Sunday's GAA Football All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Final between Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Ballinderry has been postponed due to "tragic events."

"Due to tragic events, the AIB GAA Football All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Final between Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Ballinderry is postponed," the GAA said in a brief statement today, Friday, January 10.

The GAA did not disclose on Friday what the "tragic events" were.

"The CCCC will confirm the re-fixture details in due course," it added.

Ballinderry Shamrocks GAC was set to play the Deel Rovers GAA for the AIB GAA Football Intermediate Club Final at 4:30 pm this Sunday, January 12 at Croke Park in Dublin.

The two teams were through to the final after Deel Rovers beat Kildare-based Caragh 1-12 to 0-6 and Ballinderry beat Kerry-based Austin Stacks in the semi-final 0-7 to 0-11 in their semi-finals.

Deel Rovers GAA, based in Crossmolina in Co Mayo, said on social media on Friday that it is "devastated at the news of the tragic incident that has occurred."

The club said: "Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.

"We have been in contact with our members involved, and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this incredibly difficult time."

The club, which also did not disclose the nature of the "tragic events," added that it will be issuing no further statement at this time.

Also announcing the postponement, Ballinderry Shamrocks GAC, based in Ballinderry in Co Derry, said on social media that its "thoughts are with the Crossmolina community, and all impacted at this time."
