Tipperary served up a chilling warning to Kilkenny and anyone else with eyes on their All-Ireland hurling title as they destroyed Waterford in a lop-sided Munster final in Cork.

Lar Corbett scored four goals from play and Eoin Kelly added a double as Tipp demolished the Deise on an incredible 7-19 to 0-19 scoreline at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

“It was unbelievable really,” said a delighted Tipp boss Declan Ryan. “We knew coming down that we were well-prepared.

“We were expecting a huge battle from Waterford but that didn’t materialise. I suppose Waterford won’t be happy with the way they performed on the day but from a Tipperary point of view it was very, very encouraging.

“We know we have scoring power in our forward line. If you get them the right kind of ball they can do damage. Some days they go in the back of the net and some days they don’t.

“Today they all seemed to. It was a fantastic performance from the Tipperary players.”

Galway and Limerick were the other big hurling winners over the weekend when they both advanced to the next stage of the All-Ireland qualifiers.

The Westerners will now meet beaten Munster finalists Waterford after an emphatic 2-23 to 1-14 win over Cork in Limerick on Saturday evening.

Limerick are also safely through to the next round – and a date with Dublin - thanks to a 3-22 to 0-12 win over Antrim in Parnell Park.

Dublin’s footballers regained the Leinster title but made work all the way by a brave Wexford team who eventually succumbed to a 2-12 to 1-12 defeat at headquarters.

Mick O’Dwyer’s Wicklow produced the performance of the weekend to hold hosts Armagh to a 0-19 to 2-13 draw after extra-time.

Kildare were well worth their 3-16 to 0-10 win over Laois while London’s good run ended when they were beaten 1-17 to 0-13 at home by Waterford.

Meath survived a second-half Galway revival to win by a point, 0-11 to 0-10, in Navan and Tyrone recorded an easy enough 1-17 to 0-15 win over Longford.

Down beat Leitrim by 1-16 to 1-8 and Antrim scored a narrow 1-13 to 2-9 win over Carlow at Casement Park. Limerick also made it through to the next round with a fine 3-13 to 0-15 victory at home to Offaly.

The draw for the next round of the qualifiers sees Meath host Kildare, Limerick at home to Waterford, Antrim hosting Down and the winners of the Armagh/Wicklow replay away to Tyrone.
