Liverpool are sweating on the results of a scan which may rule Steven Gerrard out of The Reds next two matches.

Gerrard was sent for scans on his troublesome groin on Thursday after the player underwent fitness tests at the club’s Melwood training complex.

The England midfielder may now be sidelined for The Premier League clash with Blackburn on Saturday and next week’s Champions League quarter final second-leg at Chelsea.

The Liverpool skipper was below his best during the first-leg at Anfield, where his input was limited by the man-marking exploits of Michael Essien.

Gerrard had been troubled by an ankle injury during the win against Fulham last week.

“Steven was not 100 percent, you could see that. It was the same for Fernando Torres, you could see that they were a little tired, not as sharp as before,” Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said following the Chelsea defeat.

“But they have been playing well and we felt it was okay to use them both in this game. We need them.”
