Ireland's rugby side went down to one of their most embarrassing defeats ever when hammered by the New Zealand All Blacks by 66 points to 28 in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Ireland were down 38-7 at half time and were reduced to fourteen men by that stage after Jamie Heaslip had been sent off.

It only got worse from then on with the All Blacks and out half Dan Carter completely rampant.

Carter (pictured above) surpassed the 1,000 point mark for his stellar international career as Ireland essentially were utterly unable to stop a highly charged up All Black side.

Brian O'Driscoll, Tommy Bowe and Gordon D'Arcy all scored consolation tries for the Irish in the second half.

In the first half Ireland were reduced to thirteen men for 10 minutes after outhalf Ronan O'Gara was dispatched to the sin bin after Heaslip had been sent off.

Irish Coach Declan Kidney told Sky Sports: “That’s what the first half was – a horror show. We gave away soft tries, we missed tackles.

“We have to have a good hard look at it. When you’re faced with adversity that’s when you see the real character of some boys and they got a handle of it and did a little bit better.

“You could say the game was over after 15 or 20 minutes [following the red and yellow cards]. New Zealand scored 21 points in that ten minutes.”
