Curran, a native of Waterville in Co Kerry, was nearing the end of an international bike trip spanning China to Ireland with his girlfriend Sara O’Shea when the accident occurred.
On the GoFundMe site looking to raise €50,000, friends explained: “Between Reims and Paris ...the worst happened when Mike was hit by a car sustaining a traumatic brain injury.”
“He was thrown meters high landing on his head. As a result of the accident, he has suffered 5 hemorrhages to the brain, bleeding in the lungs, 2 fractured ribs, a broken nose, and broken cheekbone.”
Curran, who was placed in an induced coma after the accident, is now in need of urgent rehabilitative care in the UK and the cost is “immense.”

In less than 24 hours, more than €30,000 has been raised to help get the Irishman the care he needs.
Curran and girlfriend O’Shea had been chronicling their adventures on a blog, ‘Ar Do Rothar’ (On Your Bike). The couple left their jobs in Dublin to see more of the world by bike.
