Manchester United took a giant step towards winning the Premier League by beating Portsmouth 2-0 at Old Trafford Wednesday night.
The win now moves Alex Ferguson's men three points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand.
Wayne Rooney made the breakthrough after nine minutes when he side footed home a cross from the evergreen Ryan Giggs. United were a little subdued and sat back on their lead in the second period.
However, the nerves of United fans around the world were calmed when Michael Carrick put the game beyond doubt in the 82nd minute when he finished off a Paul Scholes assist to double the lead.
