Limerick’s showdown with Cork in the Allianz Hurling League will be shown live after all following a late move by TG4.Getty

The league tie had been set to clash with Ireland’s opening Six Nations outing against England, as the rugby’s 4:45 pm start is immediately followed by the hurling beginning at 7:30 pm.

Hurling fans have long anticipated the rematch of last season’s thrilling All-Ireland semi-final, which saw the Rebels dethrone Limerick as reigning All-Ireland winners.

Despite thousands set to attend the league clash, the match was not set to be shown live on TV.

RTÉ stated that the station "sought Cork-Limerick in the Allianz Hurling League as our match selection a number of months ago but the counties could not accommodate" – instead they opted for the Division 1 football meeting between Armagh and Tyrone.

TG4, however, have now stepped up and have announced live-streaming coverage of the action at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

The Gaelige broadcaster confirmed that the game will be live on the TG4 Player and app from 7:25 pm on Saturday evening.

The game will air alongside TG4’s broadcast TV choice of Dublin against Donegal, which throws in at 7:30 pm.

A crowd of close to 30,000 is expected at Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the league meeting given the quality of the two counties’ matches in last year’s championship.

Following news of TG4 stepping up to air the game after all, supporters have been quick to praise the station on social media.

"TG4 save the day as usual," one delighted Cork fan posted.
