Tipperary's wonder goal over Limerick.TG4, X
Tipperary and Limerick’s encounter in the National Hurling League produced a wonder goal to rival any game, and TG4’s commentary stole the show in inimitable bilingual style.
While John Kiely’s men eventually powered on to a 0-30 to 1-23 win over their rivals, Tipp had gone in ahead by a point at the break thanks in no small part to Sean Kenneally’s stunning goal in the 25th minute.
Trailing by two points at the time, the first-time volleyed effort gave the Premier County a jolt – as it did for the TG4 commentary team watching on, with the instant replays prompting a hilarious reaction.
The move was well worked, with a diagonal ball sent in long dropping to Kenneally, who first batted down to teammate Darragh McCarthy.
McCarthy drew two defenders his direction as he quickly scooped and hand passed back over to Kenneally, with the ball floating invitingly in mid-air before the latter set himself and volleyed home first time into the top corner.
The goal put Tipp one point ahead and left those on commentary duty incredulous, with the replays allowing for a better second look at the wonder strike.
One summed up it was “cosúil le baseball” – comparing the goal to a sweet connection seen in the major leagues, before another replay prompted further reaction.
"Ah, lad!" came the off-the-cuff remark.
