Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is reportedly considering skipping the Irish Open next year so he can return to the US and recreate his triumph at the US Open.

His agent, Andrew "Chubby" Chandler, indicated that the PGA Tour bound McIlroy could be forced to choose between his national open and the clashing AT&T National at Congressional Country Club next year.

According to reports in the Irish Examiner, via email, when asked about McIlroy’s availability for the 2012 Irish Open, Chandler said “Rory is considering his options at the moment, the tournament in the States is at Congressional so it is reasonably attractive too!!”

Last week, in Holland, McIlroy was asked whether the competition was on his radar for 2012. He said it “depends” and added "Of course... I’m not sure when the date is yet, so that’s why."

McIlroy has said that he finds it difficult to play his best golf at the Irish Open. He admitted “You’re sort of being pulled here, there and everywhere, it’s hard to have your focus 100% on the golf because there’s so much else going on around it.”
