Seattle’s Richard Sherman, fans disgraced the game of football on Sunday
By James O’Shea
Seattle's Richard Sherman disgraced the game of football and his teammates with his dreadful display of hostility and downright hate after the 49'ers/Seahawks game on Sunday.
Sherman, a Stanford graduate, let rip with a hate-filled invective against San Francisco wide receiver Michael Crabtree after he had batted down a pass meant for Crabtree.
Sherman’s comments were shocking in their vehemence and naked hate.
It ripped the cover off the reality of big time football – that it is much more about violence than manly competition.
Sherman has been claiming the massive negative reaction has been tinged by racism. It is not about racism. It is about an utterly ugly insight he offered into the mindset of professional footballers, where sportsmanship and class is remarkably absent.
What kind of role model did Sherman present to millions of kids who were watching about sportsmanship, humility in victory, and fair play?
What message of sheer hate did he send to the next generation of footballers?
What message did Seattle coach Pete Carroll send after the game when mildly tapping Sherman on the wrists and pretending it was just boys being boys.
His breast-beating tirade was not even criticized by the Fox Sports panel of “experts” afterwards, a clear indication how far such commentators have gone in the tank to protect the game they all make millions from.
Earlier in the game when San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman was being driven off on a stretcher “fans” from Seattle pelted him with food, even though he had suffered a very serious knee injury.
With fans and players like that any surprise that most neutrals will be cheering for the Broncos in the Super Bowl?
