Irish American Teresa Scanlan from Nebraska has been crowned Miss America.

The 17-year-old , just one year out of high school is the youngest winner ever.

She was originally chosen as Miss Nebraska and has made eating disorders her major focus.

In the general knowledge section she was asked her opinion of the Wikileaks scandal and spoke somewhat incoherenty. She played the piano for her talent piece.

She was chosen over 52 other girls at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on Saturday night in a nationally televised gala.

She will get a $50,000 college scholarship and a year as winnerof oneof America’s most iconic awards.
