Analysing over 250 movies and TV shows filmed in Ireland using IMDb data, a Virgin Media study reveals the top five filming locations—and it’s easy to see why Hollywood keeps coming back for more.

Dublin – A cinematic capital

Topping the list is Dublin, with an impressive 104 productions filmed in the heart of the city. Whether it’s the cobbled streets of Temple Bar in "Normal People" or the historic grandeur of Trinity College in "The Quiet Girl", Dublin’s mix of modern energy and old-world charm makes it an ideal backdrop. Other notable productions include Kin, Lies We Tell, and Once, showcasing the city’s versatility as both a romantic and gritty urban setting.

Coming in second with 40 productions, Wicklow proves it’s not just a paradise for nature lovers but also a dream for filmmakers. Known for its lush forests, rolling hills, and fairy-tale castles, Wicklow has provided the perfect setting for films like "The Irish Wish", starring Lindsay Lohan, and the critically acclaimed psychological thriller "The Wonder". Galway takes the fourth spot with 14 productions showcasing its windswept beaches, picturesque villages, and lively streets. Donegal’s Slieve League cliffs and pristine beaches have also made it a favourite for filmmakers looking for epic and remote settings.
