In 2014, the Irish government released a three-minute video – “St Patrick’s Day 2014 #IrelandInspires“ – in time for the national holiday. The video is directed at the world’s Irish Diaspora and was shown at events organized by Irish embassies and promoted globally on social media during the St. Patrick's Day period.

Speaking at the launch of the video, Eamon Gilmore, who was then Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, said, “This video is about our people, our companies, our culture, our creativity and our country. There’s no better time to send a positive message about who we are.”

The St. Patrick’s Day’s “Promote Ireland” program saw 27 ministers take part in over 100 business events and 80 high-level political meetings in 35 cities across 23 countries. The previous year, the government representatives reached 200,000 people at events around the world.

St Patrick’s Day is a period of intensive tourism promotion. The value of these promotional opportunities, including the global ‘Greening’ of landmark sites such as the Sydney Opera House and the Pyramids in Egypt, is estimated at over €10 million ($13.5m).
