Cork, Galway, and Dublin earned top spots in the annual ranking
Three Irish cities - Cork, Galway, and Dublin - have been included in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual top ten friendliest cities in the world.
The magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Award surveyed “hundreds of thousands” of people and asked readers to highlight where they feel most welcome around the world.
“Did an outgoing local show you the way? Was the city easy to navigate?,” the survey asked.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico took the top spot in this year’s survey, but Ireland had the strongest showing with three spots in the top ten. The other friendliest cities in the world are: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Queenstown, New Zealand; Puebla, Mexico; Adelaide, Australia; Victoria, B.C., Canada; and Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Cork
The highest of the Irish entries was Cork City, located in the south of Ireland. The “intimate” and “picturesque” city was described as a prime spot to "enjoy the outdoors while sharing a table with friendly locals." They recommend visiting the local art galleries and the English Market.

Galway
The next Irish locale on the list was the bustling town of Galway City on the western coast of Ireland. Noting its proximity to the magnificent Aran Islands, the magazine pointed out “But the town itself is so charming, you might find yourself sticking close to the cobblestoned streets and ancient architecture for at least a day or two.” Readers were fans of Galway natives, who "instantly make you feel welcomed."

Dublin
Ireland’s capital city of Dublin made a big impression on readers this year. Condé Nast points out that while Dublin city is quickly becoming a hub for technology and business, the city still “maintained its Irishness.”
“Nearly every street has (at least) one pub filled with both locals and tourists, coming together to celebrate life—and that welcoming vibe lasts even after a couple pints.”
One reader said, "Great people, lots of activities, terrific nightlife. What's not to love?"
