The accolade was given to Ballyfin Demesne, who played host to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2014 on their honeymoon, by travel publication, Travel + Leisure.

The annual award is part of the World’s Best survey, which sees readers of the online publication weigh in on their travel experiences around the world.

Hotels were rated based on their rooms and facilities; location; service; food and value, with survey participants asked to give a rating on each topic.

The Georgian manor based in the Slieve Bloom Mountains earned runner-up status in the last two years, however, it made a "much deserved" ascent back to the number one spot for the 2024 survey.

One reader told Travel+Leisure that their stay at Ballyfin Demesne was "truly the most exceptional stay of my lifetime."

They added that the venue "takes five stars to the next level."

Ballyfin Demesne is spread across 614 acres and comprises just 20 bedrooms and one private one-bedroom cottage, with another reader likening their stay to being on a "private estate."
