Sun, sea and surf! Well Ireland can guarantee you at least two of these.

Ireland has long been a top global destination for surfers with international pros coming from all over to sample the best waves our 1,970 miles of Irish coast have to offer.

In celebration of summer, surf and the massive success of Tourism Ireland’s initiative, the Wild Atlantic Way, SurfHolidays.com compiled a list last year of the what they believe are the best spots along the Atlantic coast to catch waves.

The dudes at SurfHolidays took into account factors such as the surf breaks, cafes, amenities, nightlife, family friendly options, surf schools, and the general ‘vibe’ of the surf community. It’s a pretty solid list if we do say so.

It’s little wonder that Ireland has become a top world surfing destinations with its exposed Atlantic Ocean west coast and warm temperate maritime climate. Put simply Ireland has big waves, mild winters and as always a warm welcome from the natives.

This sport appeared in Ireland in the middle 1960s but it is only in the last few years that surfing has really grown popular in Ireland.

Spring and summer are the best times to hit Ireland for surfing, although conditions are good year round. And remember Ireland is also only 174 miles wide and 302 miles in so you might think about hitting a couple of surfing locales on your trails.
