The beloved animated film “Angela’s Christmas” hit stores for the first time ever on DVD this November exclusively at Walmart.
The half-hour CG animated film is based on Frank McCourt’s only children’s book inspired by his Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, “Angela’s Ashes.”
The Emmy-nominated, holiday hit from Brown Bag Films stars Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (“Loving,” “Preacher”) in the role of Angela’s mother, and Lucy O’Connell (Oscar-nominated “Song of the Sea”) as Angela. The film is written by Will Collins (“Song of the Sea,” “Wolfwalkers”) and Damien O’Connor (“Anya,” “Doc McStuffins”), and directed by Damien O’Connor.

Ellen McCourt, Frank’s widow, serves as an Executive Producer on the project and Malachy McCourt (Brewster’s Millions, The January Man, One Life to Live), Frank McCourt’s brother provides the narration. The film also features an original song from Irish singer-songwriter Dolores O’Riordan.
Set in Ireland in the 1910s, “Angela’s Christmas” is a funny, heart-warming and poignant story about the power of family and the innocent desire of a child to ensure everyone is safe, warm and loved at Christmas time.
Director and co-writer Damien O’Connor said: “Initially, it was a little daunting to turn the book into the film, but we had Frank’s widow Ellen McCourt on hand to guide us which was amazing if we strayed too far from Frank’s voice when writing the dialogue she would let us know.”
"Angela’s Christmas "garnered three Daytime Emmy nods, a triumph for the Dublin-based Brown Bag Films which produced the program and received writing and sound nominations too.
The DVD will be available at all Walmart locations nationwide starting on November 19 for $19.95.
