Stung by criticism that his biography of Abraham Lincoln contains multiple errors, pugnacious pundit Bill O'Reilly blasted his critics on his Fox News show on Monday evening.

The critics attacking his book were simply liars, O'Reilly said.

O'Reilly's book - his account of Lincoln's assassination - received the worst kind of publicity this week when it was rejected for sale at Ford's Theatre, the very place where the famed president was shot and killed. The decision not to offer O'Reilly's book for sale was due, the store said, to its many factual inaccuracies.

Although the book has been declined by the official store in the basement of the theater, it is reportedly still being sold at the theater's lobby gift shop, which is run by the Ford's Theatre Society, unlike the theatre store which is run by the National Park Service.

On his show on Monday O'Reilly was incandescent. He thundered that there were just four 'minor misstatements' in Killing Lincoln, two of which were the result of typeset errors.

But the National Park Service review of the book reports at least eight errors, including that the book references the Oval Office multiple times, although it wasn't built until 1909, decades after Lincoln's death.

Unabashed, O'Reilly claimed that the jeering over the books errors was being ginned up by his enemies who resented his success.

'We well understand our enemies are full of rage at that success,' O'Reilly opined, using the royal plural. 'We also know the media lies at will these days with little accountability.'

It was an ironic statement, considering accountability in the media was at the root of the complaints, but O'Reilly let it pass.
