Warner Bros has released a first-look photo of Catherine O'Hara, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, and Justin Theroux looking Gothic chic in the upcoming sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
36 years after the cult hit movie "Beetlejuice" was released, director Tim Burton is back with original cast members Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, and Winona Ryder in "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice."
Big names in the sequel - which is due to arrive in theaters and IMAX on September 6 - include Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci.
The 1988 original "Beetlejuice" followed the recently deceased Barbara and Adam Maitland (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) who enlist a mischievous demon Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to expel the living residents - the Deetz family- from their home.
Here's the synopsis for the long-awaited sequel: "Beetlejuice is back!
"After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.
"With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."
As well as the new teaser picture featuring O'Hara, Ryder, Ortega, and Theroux, Warner Bros has also released a picture of Keaton reprising his role as the titular Beetlejuice.
In a recent EW interview, director Burton let slip: "There's something that happens that sets things in motion." The entertainment magazine speculated whether it was the death of Lydia's father, Charles Deetz (originally played by Jeffrey Jones).
Speaking on the podcast "Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa," O'Hara spoke about the joy of filming the upcoming movie.
O'Hara told Ripa: "It was just very, just really loose and fun and lovely, and Michael Keaton was so happy to be there, and Jenna is so cool. Jenna Ortega is such a cool young woman."
She added, "Winona looks exactly the same!"
In a slightly manic scene in the original movie, the Deetz family becomes possessed and dances around their dinner room table singing the Harry Belafonte song "Day-O." While speaking with Ripa, O'Hara suggested that the beloved song may return in the 2024 movie. We shall see!
