British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been offered the job to play 007 in the next James Bond movie.
After years of debate, it seems that we've found out who'll be replacing Daniel Craig, who played James Bond for more than a decade in the films "Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace," "Skyfall," and "Spectre."
Although the Irish had been hopeful, Oscar-winning "Oppenheimer" star Cillian Murphy nor Jamie Dornan of "50 Shades of Grey" fame will be taking up the mantle as the most famous spy in the world.
The UK Sun has reported that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been formally offered the job as the new James Bond.
According to The Sun, Eon Productions will start shooting the next James Bond movie later this year.
Although the movie's production was delayed by the writer's strike, filming is set to take off at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, coincidentally where Taylor-Johnson hails from.
A source told the paper: "Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.
“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”
Last week, when asked if he would take up the James Bond role if offered, Taylor-Johnson said: "I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”
Sources have said that it was Taylor-Johnson's role as a psychopath in the 2016 thriller "Nocturnal Animals" that opened the door for this Bond role. He won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for this role.
The source said: "His role in 'Nocturnal Animals' showed his depth as an actor.
“He is the perfect person to play Bond and will pick up well from where Daniel left off.”
Taylor-Johnson, should he accept the role, will be the eighth actor to portray James Bond. Only one Irish actor - Pierce Brosnan - has ever played the role.
