The Irishman has conquered Awards Season with his powerful performance as Oz Cobb in "The Penguin", but now it looks like he's being eyed up for another role within the comic realm.

It's being reported that the 48-year-old is being circled to replace Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino's adaptation of the "Sgt Rock" comics, which would mean Farrell will be portraying two DC characters.

The 007 star had been attached to the role, although it remains unclear if he'd actually signed on the dotted line or not, but dropped out of consideration back in February.

Now Deadline says the person the team is hoping will take up the mantle is the "Banshees of Inisherin" star, but the casting delays do bring some doubts over whether or not the film will actually make it to production.

This isn't the first time attempts have been made to create a cinematic adaptation of "Sgt Rock", with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger being attached at different times.

However, those films were never made, but for this new DC Studios adaptation, hopes are high that they can begin production in England this summer.

There's also Farrell's schedule to consider as he's due to reprise his role as "Penguin" in the upcoming "The Batman" sequel, but how much of his time that will require remains to be seen.

As for "Sgt Rock", "Challengers" and "Queer" scribe Justin Kuritzkes will be penning the script with Guadagnino directing, and the film falls under James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU.
