The controversial UFC fighter has made a number of politically charged statements on social media and has teased that he will run for President of Ireland in the 2025 elections once Michael D Higgins’ second term is up.
In his latest tweet on a potential Presidency, McGregor said that he would immediately dissolve the Dáil and would have "all the answers" for Irish people, and said that he would "stop the train" of the "charlatans" in office.
However, the office of the President cannot dissolve the Dáil unless instructed by the head of the government — that being the Taoiseach — with the Presidential power to dissolve the Dáil being described as "non-discretionary."
"As president, I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it," McGregor claimed on Twitter (X).
"So, as I said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses.
"These charlatans in their positions of power would be summoned to answer to the people of Ireland and I would have it done by day end. Or I would be left with no choice but to dissolve the Dáil entirely. Stop the train until the people of Ireland get the answers they seek. Point blank.
"This would be my power as president. I know very well. Ireland needs an active president employed wholly by the people of Ireland. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is upcoming."
As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as i said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on…

McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC since he lost his third fight against Dustin Poirier back in 2021, and was supposed to fight Michael Chandler — but pulled out of the fight after suffering a foot injury.
A date for his comeback fight hasn’t been announced by UFC President Dana White, but he has insisted that he will be fighting this year — but no date has been confirmed at the time of writing.
Elsewhere, McGregor has been pictured alongside his sister Erin at her wedding after she tied the knot to her husband Terry Kavanagh in style at the Cashel Palace Hotel.
