Rumors that Coldplay - who are in Ireland ahead of four sold-out concerts at Croke Park - were going to busk on Dublin's Grafton Street on Wednesday evening, August 28, drew throngs of fans to the area.
As people gathered, some people took to social media sharing pictures of cameras around the area, further fueling the speculation that something exciting was set to happen on the Dublin shopping street.
At about 8:30 - roughly two hours after crowds began to gather - Coldplay frontman Chris Martin arrived, joined by Burna Boy, Little Simz, and Tini + Elyanna.
The group recently released a new single called "We Pray."

While fans were likely hoping for some sort of busk from Coldplay, Chris Martin and his collaborators only performed "We Pray" a few times before wrapping up.
It's believed the performance - albeit brief - was for a new music video to accompany the "We Pray" single.
Later on Wednesday night, Coldplay posted a video on TikTok of the pop-up performance, describing it as a "magic moment."
"Thanks to everyone who showed up, and to TikTok for helping to make it happen," the band added.

Chris Martin’s surprise appearance on Grafton Street came just a few hours after Coldplay shared a sweet video of him exploring Dún Laoghaire and chatting with a busker.
“So happy to be in Dublin,” the video was captioned, "Pleasure to meet you, Gerry."

In what can only be described as an uncanny bit of foreshadowing, Irish busking sensation Allie Sherlock commented on Coldplay's Instagram post earlier on Wednesday, inviting them to "pop by" Grafton Street, where she usually sets up, on Saturday.
Coldplay is set to perform four sold-out shows at Dublin's Croke Park starting this Thursday. It is the first time the Grammy-winning group is playing in Dublin since 2017, prompting huge demand for tickets.
