Irish actor Andrew Scott has landed Emmy nominations for the Netflix smash-hit series "Ripley."
Scott, a native of Dublin, has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category, where he's up against Matt Bomer (“Fellow Travelers”), Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”), Jon Hamm (“Fargo”), and Tom Hollander (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”).
The Irish actor is additionally named among the "Ripley" producers who were together nominated in the Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series category, which sees "Baby Reindeer," "Fargo," "Lessons in Chemistry," and "True Detective: Night Country" as the fellow nominees.
These are not Scott's first Emmy nominations. In 2020, he was nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category for his role in "Black Mirror."
Scott's "Ripley" costar Dakota Fanning has also been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category for her role as Marge Sherwood.
Overall, "Ripley" was nominated for 13 other awards in across several categories.
The limited series spent two weeks in Netflix's Global Top Ten (English - television programs) ranking after its debut on the streaming platform on April 4. In Ireland, the series was in the top ten for four weeks.
Here's the synopsis of "Ripley," according to Netflix: "Tom Ripley [Scott], a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.
"Tom's acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder.
"The limited series drama is based on Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels."
Elsewhere at the 2024 Emmy nominations that were announced in Hollywood today, July 17, Conan O'Brien landed two nods for his travel series "Conan O'Brien Must Go."
His episode "Ireland" - which sees the Irish American funnyman trace his roots - is nominated in the Outstanding Writing For A Nonfiction Program category, while the series has been nominated in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series Or Special category.
In his "Ireland" episode, O'Brien tried his hand at the Irish language for a cameo on the long-running "Ros na Run" program:
Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention that Ireland’s sweetheart, Ayo Edebiri, has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series category for her role as Sydney Adamu in “The Bear.”
The Boston native actress won herself legions of Irish fans after she inexplicably joked that she played Jenny the Donkey in "The Banshees of Inisherin."
On the red carpet for the Emmy Awards last year, Edebiri further endeared herself to her unexpected Irish fanbase saying: "Shout out to my people. Shout to Derry, shout to Cork, shout out to Killarney, shout out to Dublin."
The 76th Emmy Awards will broadcast live in the US on ABC on Sunday, September 15 from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE, and stream the next day on Hulu.
