The top filming locations in Ireland have been ranked, with The Burren, in County Clare, winning first place after featuring in "Father Ted."
Ireland is filled with an endless amount of beautiful spots to discover - and this could be why eagled-eyed film and TV producers have chosen to film some of the greatest masterpieces on the Emerald Isle to capture Ireland’s natural beauty on camera.
From TV shows "Father Ted" and "Normal People" to the Oscar-winning "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "Brooklyn", Betfair Casino has ranked the top 12 real-life filming locations across Ireland that viewers at home will definitely recognize from the edge of their seats - and have proven to be the most popular to visit.
The popularity of each location was measured by a unique index score - based on the number of hashtags and views each location has racked up on Instagram, as well as Trip Advisor rankings - with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking.
One of Ireland’s most astonishing landscapes, The Burren, located in County Clare bagged first place - with it being the filming spot for "Father Ted." While Father Ted’s House is a private residence, fans of the series will be able to soak up the beautiful surroundings of the supposed Craggy Island, as well as admire the famous parish house from the outside. Ennistymon, located in County Clare, was also used for the comedy series - which made the top 12. The town was used in many episodes of the show, including being the setting for the very memorable "My Lovely Horse" music video.
In second place was Achill Island, located in County Mayo. Known for its tall sea cliffs and shoreline with a typically Irish breeze, Achill Island has a lot to offer - especially with fans recognizing the island as the backdrop for Colm Doherty’s house in "The Banshees of Inisherin." Some of the Oscar-winning scenes also took place in Inis Mor, where Pádraic (Colin Farrell) and Siobhán’s (Kerry Condon) called home. Inis Mór is situated at the mouth of Galway Bay and Pádraic and Siobhán’s house was located in an area called Gort Na gCapall.
Meanwhile, Sligo bagged third place after featuring in the BBC drama "Normal People." The much-loved romance drama saw Connell (Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Daisy Edgar Jones) appearing on Sligo's beautiful beaches and mountains - and Tubbercurry was used to set the scene of the fictional town, Carricklea.
Connell and Marianne’s alma mater Trinity College, located in Dublin, also made fourth place, as fans will be familiar with the pair sitting in lectures and wandering around the University grounds. Trinity College was also used in Sally Rooney’s adapted BBC series, "Conversations with Friends."
More popular locations that also made the list were Enniscorthy in Wexford, which was used in "Brooklyn," and making an appearance in "The Count of Monte Cristo" was Silver Strand Beach, in Wicklow.
