Irish actors Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan, and Andrew Scott have been nominated for Golden Globes in the Best Actor Motion Picture - Drama category. 

Cork native Murphy has been nominated for his performance in Christopher Nolan's summer biopic "Oppenheimer," Dubliner Keoghan was nominated for the buzzy "Saltburn," and Dublin native Scott has been nominated for his role opposite fellow Irish actor Paul Mescal in "All of Us Strangers."

The three talented Irish actors have all previously been nominated for a Golden Globe, though none have won. Keoghan was nominated for "The Banshees of Inisherin," Murphy was nominated for "Breakfast on Pluto," and Scott was nominated for "Fleabag."

Irish actors make up half of all nominees in the Motion Picture - Drama category, with Bradley Cooper ("Maestro"), Leonardo DiCaprio ("Killers of the Flower Moon"), and Colman Domingo ("Rustin") also nominated for the award.

Elsewhere in the 2024 Golden Globe nominations, the Dublin-based production house Element Pictures nabbed an impressive seven nominations  for "Poor Things."

"1923," the prequel series to the hit "Yellowstone," landed two nominations, including one for Helen Mirren, who stars as Irish immigrant Cara Dutton in the drama series.

Meanwhile, Imelda Staunton, whose parents are both from Co Mayo, and Dominic West, whose maternal grandparents were from Ireland, were both nominated for their roles in "The Crown."

Overall, summer blockbuster "Barbie" - which features Irish actress Nicola Coughlan - and the critically acclaimed HBO series "Succession" lead the way at the upcoming awards with nine nominations each. 

"Oppenheimer" follows close behind with a total of eight nominations - Best Motion Picture - Drama, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Murphy), Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture (Emily Blunt), Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture (Robert Downey Jr), Best Director - Motion Picture (Christopher Nolan), Best Screenplay - Motion Picture, and Best Original Score - Motion Picture. 

Martin Scorcese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" received seven Golden Globe nominations, level with Yorgos Lanthimos’s fantasy film "Poor Things."

The ceremony for the 81st Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 7, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
