Irish actors Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy could make BAFTAs history on Sunday night by becoming the first-ever Irish actors to win in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category.
Keoghan ("Saltburn") and Murphy ("Oppenheimer") are among the six nominees for Best Actor at Sunday night's ceremony.
Colman Domingo ("Rustin"), Paul Giamatti ("The Holdovers"), Bradley Cooper ("Maestro"), and Teo Yoo ("Past Lives") have also been nominated for the Best Actor award.
Keoghan could also become the first person to achieve the unique feat of winning Best Actor a year after winning Best Supporting Actor, with the Dubliner scooping the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award at last year's BAFTAs for his performance in Martin McDonagh's black comedy "The Banshees of Inisherin."
British actress Judi Dench achieved the rare feat in reverse order, scooping the Best Actress award in 1997 for her performance in "Mrs. Brown" followed by the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award in 1998 for her performance in "Shakespeare in Love."
BonusCodeBets.co.uk collected all the records that could be broken at the 2024 BAFTAs ceremony.
Elsewhere, German actress Sandra Hüller could make history after being nominated in both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.
Hüller has been nominated for Best Actress for her performance in "Anatomy of a Fall," while she has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "Zone of Interest."
Fantasia Barrino ("The Color Purple") and Vivian Oparah ("Rye Lane") can both make history on Sunday night by becoming the first woman of color to win the Best Actress award in the BAFTA's 77-year history.
Carey Mulligan (Maestro) and Emma Stone (Poor Things) are both aiming to win the Best Actress award for the second time, with Stone previously winning for her performance in "La La Land" and Mulligan winning in 2009 for her performance in "An Education." A total of 15 actresses have won the Best Actress award on at least two occasions.
Margot Robbie ("Barbie") has also been nominated for the Best Actress award.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's summer blockbuster "Oppenheimer," which won big at the Golden Globes last month, has been nominated for Best Film at Sunday night's awards.
Oppenheimer is joined by "The Holdovers," "Anatomy of a Fall," "Poor Things," and "Killers of the Flower Moon."
Nolan has additionally been nominated for Best Director alongside Bradley Cooper ("Maestro"), Jonathan Glazer ("The Zone of Interest"), Andrew Haigh ("All of Us Strangers"), Alexander Payne ("The Holdovers"), and Justine Triet ("Anatomy of a Fall").
