John Connors sparked excitement from "Love/Hate" fans by indicating that the hit show was coming back to our screens, but has had to clarify what the plan is.

Since he first spoke about the potential for "Love/Hate" coming back, there's been a lot of confusion over what the plan is.

On Wednesday, Connors appeared on The Dave Moore Show on Today FM to explain what went down, and how he's been "getting stick online" since first making the claims.

Word first spread by Connors appearing on Virgin Media's the Six O'Clock Show on Friday, February 7, and announced the pair were working on a way to bring the show back.

On Today FM yesterday, Connors explained the background of his conversations with Carolan: "So, look, me and Stuart, a few years ago, were walking through town, and myself and Stuart became very good friends over the years. I've learned a lot from Stuart. He's been a great mentor to me and a great friend.

"We always wanted to work together again as well. There was a day when I was getting stopped just every second minute by someone. 'Love/Hate Love/Hate Love/Hate'. And this was eight years, nine years after the show.

"So Stuart was kind of just like, 'I can't believe that this still has legs.' And I said, you should consider bringing this back and that kind of struck a nerve with Stuart."

As for why he decided to spill the beans on live television, Connors explained: "Now, the other day what happened was I thought that they [Virgin Media] got a scent that this was happening.

"There was meant to be a press release coming, and I sort of spoiled the whole thing. And now the press release is not coming!

"But this is kind of what I do. I'm an impulsive person. I just thought it'd be fun to to surprise them. You know, so it did surprise people.

"It's not going to be on RTÉ. That's confirmed. And I only confirmed myself coming back so far. I didn't say Elmo or Ado or the Siobhans or the Trishs are coming back. You know, I didn't. All I confirmed is that Patrick Ward, I'm coming back for sure.

"And I'm a writer on the show. Stuart has honoured me, asking me to be a writer on the show with him, and I'm Executive Producer, and it's the best writing I've ever encountered."

As for working with Stuart again, he added: "We're at a very good stage of the project right now, and I'm so, so excited. It's going to be a huge scale as well, even compared to the original.

"It's going to be a bigger production. It will be on screens next year. That is an absolute fact. 100%. I'm going to get myself in trouble. So I have to pull back on that. I'm trying to give you as much as possible."

Geek Ireland reached out to RTÉ for comment, and they replied: "The ever popular Love/Hate continues to be one of the most steamed shows on RTÉ Player."
