The RTÉ drama "Love/Hate" is set to make a comeback - at least according to Dublin actor John Connors, who featured in the popular series as Patrick Ward.

"Love / Hate" premiered in 2010 and concluded its run back in 2014 after 28 enthralling episodes, but the RTÉ drama remains a cult classic to this day.

Not only is "Love / Hate" popular, but it's also critically acclaimed having won 19 Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTAs) during its run.

As well as Connors, "Love / Hate" boasted a top-notch Irish cast including Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Robert Sheehan, Killian Scott, Ruth Negga, and Peter Coonan.

A young Barry Keoghan, who went on to become an Oscar nominee, even featured as a notorious 'cat killer' in the show.

While rumors of the show's return circulated after its 2014 finale, RTÉ One confirmed in November 2015 that there were "no plans to bring back" the show at the time.

On Thursday evening, however, Connors sent "Love / Hate" fans into a frenzy when he let it slip during his appearance on Virgin Media's "Six O'Clock Show" that the show is set to return.

So surprising was the announcement that hosts Brian Dowling and Katja Mia were nearly convinced that Connors was "trolling" them.

“Yeah. It’s going out to production later this year, so it’ll be out next year," Connors revealed.

“I wasn’t meant to say it til tomorrow,” he admitted with a smile. “But yeah.”

Connors said he can't reveal the plot just yet, but confirmed he'll "be in it."

“I can’t really reveal who else is in it,” he said, adding, “But yeah, it’s going ahead again.”

While Connors claimed on Thursday evening - a day too early, according to him - that the show is coming back, RTÉ has denied it.

"There are no plans for a new series of Love/Hate," an RTE spokesperson said later on Thursday.
